What is Stress?

Stress is simply a response our body gives to any kind of demand or change. A response could be emotional, physical or mental. There could be innumerable reasons for your stress.

Remind those reminiscences of your reactions when you about to meet the deadlines of your project, your teacher was going to inform your parents about your low grades, your wife was on pregnancy table and you wandering back and forth, your beloved about to answer your proposal and you are unsure of her answer, and even when your dad caught you doing vexatious.

It also when your favorite cricketer about to hit the century and that ball goes high in the air, it could be wicket or century, then there your heart comes to mouth and that is stress.

Stress is not necessarily a bad thing, we human can process the emotions and so the responses come up naturally. It becomes the ailment when our body goes into a state of stress in inappropriate situations and kept there for long periods.

How it builds up?

During the state of stress, the body releases a complex mix of hormones and chemicals such as adrenaline, cortisol, and nor-epinephrine to prepare the body for physical activity.

This causes a number of reactions, from blood being diverted to muscles to divert you from food, headache, and alike.

Impacts of negative stress

Distress is a negative stress reaction when stress continues for a long without relief. It can disturb the body’s emotional, mental and physical health.

Headaches, an upset stomach, sexual difficulties, loss of appetite, weight gain or loss, etc are the physical consequences. Depression, panic attacks, anxiety, etc are the emotional ones. And many such resulted from negative-stress.

The most prevalent life-threatening diseases could arise are heart diseases, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide. Other symptoms of distress are dizziness, grinding teeth, racing heart, cold and sweaty palms, shaking body, etc.

Later to relieve the stress people fall into extra distress. They consume compulsive substances such as alcohol, drugs, and behaviors like gambling, sex, shopping, and the internet. They would be the easiest people to be trapped in the vicious circle (1).
