Body Types in Ayurveda

The Ayurvedic method to life includes listening to and dealing with the distinct demands of your body, recognizing and balancing your mental and emotional states, and deepening your connection with your spirit, your essential self.

In Ayurveda, there is evidence available that emphasizes consuming diet according to your body type. Ayurvedic body type is a unique concept which entitles each one of us as a unique entity. Each body type gets affected by the choice of food and lifestyle we adopt.

Vata Type

It is the energy needed for motion. Vata resides in the colon, as well as the brain, ears, bones, joints, skin, and thighs.

Pitta Type

It is the energy required for digestion and metabolism. Pitta people tend to have diseases involving the fire principle such as fevers, inflammatory diseases, and jaundice.

Kapha Type

It is the energy required for lubrication and structure. They are more likely to have diseases connected to the water principle such as flu, sinus congestion, and other diseases involving mucous.

Herbal Tea Recipes

Herbal tea is prepared from the decoction or infusion of herbs and spices in water. It is not tea nor does it have caffeine or any habit-forming substance.

Ginger, tulsi, mint, even pepper, and cinnamon are all extremely healthy, landing a strong uppercut against illness of any kind. You can put all sorts of things into your herbal tea – roots, flowers, leaves, seeds, and fruit, really whatever you desire (1).

Herbal Tea for Vata

Vata tea must include herbs such as fennel, cloves, Tulsi, Ginger, Cinnamon, Liquorice, stevia, etc.


  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 4 to 5 tulsi leaves, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon carom seeds
  • 1 cup water

How to prepare it?

  • Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan.
  • Boil them for five minutes over a medium flame.
  • Strain the herbal tea and pour it in a cup.
  • Serve it hot.

Vata people mostly suffer from bloating, constipation, and gas. Vata tea has warming effects, which is beneficial to balance the Vata dosha (bioenergy).

Pitha tea must include elements such as Ginger, Cardamom, Fennel, Roses, Liquorice, Stevia.


  • 1 cardamom
  • 4 to 5 rose petals, fresh
  • ½ teaspoon licorice root powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • ½ teaspoon chamomile flower, dry

How to prepare it?:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a sacuepan.
  • Boil it for five minutes over a medium flame.
  • Strain the herbal tea and pour it in a cup.
  • Serve it hot.

Pitta people mostly suffer from acidity, burning sensation in the body, headache, etc. Pitta tea has cooling effects, which is beneficial to balance the Pitta dosha (bioenergy).

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, organic
  • ½ star anise
  • A small piece of lemongrass leaf
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper, grounded

How to prepare it?

  • Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan.
  • Boil it for five minutes over a medium flame.
  • Strain the herbal tea and pour it in a cup.
  • Serve it hot.

Kapha people mostly suffer from heaviness in the body, weak digestion, laziness, and others. Kapha tea brings lightness in the body and is beneficial to balance the Kapha dosha (bioenergy).
